Mail Sexuality Under Fire

The Art of Loving, a tasteful Kitsilano boutique that specializes in all manner of items to help couples and the lonely get their freak on, has been given a disciplinary slap (metaphorically speaking) by Canada Post for distributing promotional and educational newsletters as unsolicited ad mail. Although the newsletter has been distributed to 25,000 Vancouver homes - via private delivery service and insertion (double entendre intended) in the Courier - without complaint, Canada Post has declined to deliver it to apartment buildings, citing that the inclusion of words such as "penis", "clitoris" and "ejaculate" do not meet community standards. The Art of Loving has distributed a retaliatory press release that accuses Canada Post of "puritanical sex censorship", further arguing that "squeamishness about honest sexual discourse is not a proper rationale for this public policy." Sexually active citizens - and those who wish they were - are invited to view the newsletter in question at www.theartofloving.ca/newsletter2.pdf, and to register their thoughts with Canada Post if they so choose. To help ensure that letters in support of the Art of Loving be taken seriously, advocates are advised not to accuse Canada Post of being "bad boys - very, very bad boys."
