An Erotic Ecology

Our planet is in trouble. If we want to solve the environmental crisis, we need to do more than recycle and ride our bike. We need new ways to practice the art of making love.

So argues Professor Serena Anderlini-D’Onofrio in her new book Gaia and the New Politics of Love. Professor Anderlini-D'Onofiro is one of the world's leading theorists on the relationship between sexuality and the global ecosystem.

On Tuesday November 24 at 7.30 she will introduce Vancouver to her exciting vision in a two-hour presentation at The Art of Loving in Kitsilano.

Professor Anderlini-D’Onofiro proposes that in a warring and overheated world we adopt “lovestyles” that encourage the caring for and sharing of resources in ethical and consensual ways. Polyamorous and bi-sexual lifestyles are models of this type of loving. They expand beyond the limiting “binaries” of monogamy and gender. They emphasize sharing, openness, abundance rather than ownership, armor, and scarcity.

Reconfigured as ecological erotic orientations, the lovestyles that correspond to former perversions are found to have a positive effect on Gaia’s health.
