"Green" Sex Toys, Is it Possible?

Welcome back, today we will talk about the environmental impact of the sex toy industry. As most consumer industries go, mass consumption of wants is common, and the lifespan of a product isn’t always thought about.
The sex toy industry is similar, it’s easy to buy cheap products and toss them when they break. Most safe sex toys are made with silicone. Silicone is great for toys because of how non-porous the material is and does not degrade over time and leak toxins into your body. This, however, also means that there isn’t much that can break silicone down once it’s in a landfill. Recycling silicones is also a long process and needs to be done specifically at a silicone recycling facility. Then there’s the batteries that power toys. Both rechargeable toys and battery-operated toys have metals that should not be tossed in the garbage.
So, is there a solution?
In a perfect green world, we wouldn’t be discussing this. But we are people with needs and possessing things you will use is part of life. If you are interested in how to reduce your impact on the environment, here are some things to consider.
Materials – Silicone is the gold standard of flexible toys. Virtually indestructible and will last you a lifetime (if you keep it away from sharps). Great for your lifetime! Not so much the planets. If you are comfortable with a rigid toy, consider getting glass or stainless steel. Glass is naturally occurring and can break down eventually, and stainless steel can be easily recycled and reused.
Batteries – We all know that batteries are not the best and it’s better for the planet if we don’t generate a lot of dead ones. A rechargeable toy is great for reducing your battery consumption. Using rechargeable batteries for toys that need external batteries is also a great way to reduce your footprint. If you’re not a fan of any kind of batteries, there are corded toys that plug into outlets ie. The Magic Wand Original & Plus. These guys don't have batteries in them, it's just the other electronic parts. They have less footprint because of it.
