Anal Toys vs Vaginal Toys
- Posted on

There’s an awful lot of crossover, but be mindful of some key differences!
People come in all the time looking for a toy to put in one or more of their various holes- and it’s our job to figure out what toy will suit that best! So lets get into the difference between insertable anal toys and insertable vaginal toys!
Flared Base
You’ve almost definitely heard this before, but it’s true. Every anal toy should have a flared base. This just means that the base of the toy is wider than the rest of it, and prevents the toy from slipping completely inside of you and getting lost. While most insertable sex toys really should have a flared base, this is doubly important for anal toys, as usually the anal cavity is tighter, has a smaller opening, and is less easily accessible on the body than the vagina is. The simple truth is that it’s actually just easier to accidentally lose something in your ass than it is to lose something in your vagina. Like, literally physically because of how you have to move in order for things to be inserted, without a flared base, they are easier to lose and wayyyy worse to retrieve. So while not all vaginal toys don’t have flared bases (in fact, a lot of them do), nearly EVERY anal toy will have one.
Curve
This is a smaller thing, and actually comes down to preference. A lot of anal toys are curved in order to hit the prostate, whereas a lot of vaginal toys are curved to hit the g-spot. Obviously not everyone using anal toys will have a prostate, so this is a moot point for some. But it’s good to keep in mind what kind of curve is going where when you’re buying an insertable toy!
Overall, a lot of what feels good in the back will also feel good in the front. It really mostly comes down to ease and safety, but I would wager that most insertable toys can be used vaginally or anally with no hazards or risks- just make sure to lube up and disinfect well after!
