Period Sex and Repulsion to Menstrual Blood
- Posted on
About period sex…
Should you have sex during your period? Is menstruation stopping you from enjoying some intimacy?
I get it. Periods are messy. Isn’t sex messy anyway? I am aware that some people find blood gross.
It can carry diseases and smells like copper and stains stuff.
If you suspect someone or yourself to be carrying an STI, you should be using some form of protection anyway. Blood is going to smell like blood, and a vagina smells like vagina, and poop is stored in the rectum. We all do laundry, right?
I would like to challenge why you find period blood gross.
It is the only blood spilled that doesn’t stem from violence.
I’ve seen people morbidly fascinated by violent photos or injuries but repulsed when their partner has to empty their period cup.
I’ve seen people willingly touching biohazardous waste, just not tampons.
Why is period blood seen as something so disgusting? Worse than gore, worse than death, worse than war.
History has called menstruation “filthy” and “impure.” Yet they value women as birthing vessels. When someone has gone through menopause and no longer bleeds, their “value” has decreased.
This is all to say, please reconsider your relationship to your body. If you’re someone who has a partner who bleeds, consider your perception of period blood.
If you aren’t comfortable with masturbating or having sex on your period, that is still 100% valid. Just make sure it is your choice. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable.
If you are interested in period sex, speak with your partner. If they say no, it’s a no. Go and enjoy yourself on your own time.
Peace and love.
