Toy Cleaning Guide

Toy Cleaning Guide

About cleaning your toys…

On todays guide, we will be going over the toy cleaning process. I wrote an article on toy care and body safety years ago. However, I have not gone in depth with cleaning instructions. I am surprised it took me so long to write this.

Our main concerns with cleaning toys are preventing STIs and infections. STIs can be transmitted if you’re sharing toys with someone. They are not a concern if you’re keeping your toys to yourself. Unclean toys can cause yeast infections, UTIs, etc., even if you aren’t sharing.

Let’s clean!

Most toys will have instructions somewhere on or in the packaging. Make note of it. Sometimes it is important because the specific instructions are given to preserve the lifespan of your toy.

Do your best to give your toy a general clean immediately after use. To be fair I am also a lazy creature and sometimes leave the lube to dry on a dildo. And perhaps I don’t want to get up, but I really should. Do not cross contaminate butt and vaginal toys. Keep those bacterial powerhouses away from each other. If you have an anal toy you wish to insert vaginally, we recommend giving it a deep clean before you do so.

When sharing toys, we always recommend a deep clean to rid of any lingering bacteria, viruses, or parasites.

If you have single claim on your toy, it isn’t necessary to deep clean unless your butt and vagina are sharing a toy. Or if you just want to deep clean anyway that’s great too.

Ok what is the difference between a general clean and a deep clean?

General Clean

For a general clean, wash with warm water and soap. Like your hands! Pat dry and store. We recommend using an unscented hand soap to avoid irritation. Not a big deal. Whatever soap you use, just makes sure you rinse well and get all the soap off.

This works with any toy. Glass, metal, silicone, motorized, and the not so body safe toys. (Please refer to this post on best materials for your body )

Deep Clean

If you want to deep clean your metal, glass, or silicone (no electronics) toys, you can give it a boil in water for 10 minutes. Or use a toy cleaner if boiling a dildo in the kitchen is ill advised.

If you want to deep clean a toy with electronics, buy some toy cleaner and follow the instructions on the bottle. Usually they follow a ‘spray and rinse’ usage. Boiling a motorized toy can ruin the electronics forever.

Regardless of what toy you are using and if you are sharing or not, you need to clean you toy after every use. I like to rinse off my toys before use to get dust off.

We don’t sell pots for you toy boiling, but we do have cleaning solutions. Find them here!

Peace and Love.
