How To Keep The (CA)TSA From Ruining Your Good Time

Bringing sex toys across the border can be stressful- here are a few ways to mitigate that stress!
It’s a good time to be a Canadian, travelwise. We’ve got visa-less travel to China right now, as well as becoming closer and closer with members of the EU- that EU passport is surely right around the corner. We joined the European Broadcasting Union as a full partner last week, which is monumental. All that to say- a good amount of travel may be in your future as well as mine! And during that travel, its important to be able to kick back and relax in an unfamiliar environment with something from home- provided you can get it through airport security, of course.
Travelling with electronics in general can be difficult, but this difficulty is increased tenfold when it comes to sex toys. There are many sex toys that show up strangely on the scanners, many that are too big to be brought on planes, and many countries that straight-up ban them. So, you’ve gotta be strategic in how and what you’re packing in your bag.
First and foremost! If you’re only travelling with a carry-on, DO NOT bring a Magic Wand! It is too big to be brought- airport security WILL confiscate it and classify it as a “club”. According to the airport, the wand is a weapon, and it would suck to lose such a nice toy over something like that. Stick to smaller, hand-sized toys for travel, it’ll leave more room in your bag for souvenirs anyway.
If your toy is rechargeable, try to drain its battery completely before you bring it so you don’t risk it turning on at any point before you need it to. And obviously, if it’s battery powered, remove all batteries before packing it.
Finally, be aware of sex toy bans! Unfortunately, some countries have restrictions on sex toys, some of which are criminalized. Toys may be confiscated. Worse case, you can be put behind bars. Consult the handy "What Can I Bring?" search tool on the TSA website to double check before you go anywhere with potential contraband. You wouldn’t want a fun trip to get upended by being incarcerated in international waters.
If you just stay smart and don’t get too carried away with your travelling toys, you should be completely fine! And remember- if you didn’t want to deal with all that, you could always just check a bag.
Happy travelling!
